Established in 1988 by a group of five friends in the local pub, today the club is thriving with 2 league sides, 2 friendly sides and an Old Farts XI together with 6 junior age groups being jointly coached with Potterne CC.
Having marked our silver jubilee in 2013 with the opening of our new pavilion and started 2014 with the improvement of our 3 full-length nets, 2015 saw further developments to the ground including a new machine shed, an extended carpark and further levelling works to the outfield. The start of the 2016 season sees us with over 150 active members and something happens on the ground almost everyday (occasionally this is cricket!)
For the first time in the club's history, the 2015 season saw Bishops Cannings Cricket Club enter a team in the Saturday Wiltshire County Cricket League in association with Potterne 4th XI. Having already established ourselves as one of the friendliest clubs in the area, last season we also proved we were a side to be taken seriously on the pitch. We won the league (having only lost 2 games all season) and were promoted to Division 6. We look forward to continued success in 2016 and our congratulations to all the players - good effort lads.
Started in 2008, the 2016 event was the 5th Charity Clay Shoot to be held at the wonderful Wellington Barn. With over £75,000 donated to various charities in previous years, this year we set ourselves an ambitious target of £50,000 for the 2016 event.
Thanks to the amazing generosity of everyone involved (Guns, Team Captains, Sponsors, Prize Donors, Auction Bidders, Helpers, Supporters and friends), we met and exceeded our target. The sun kindly shone on us once again and with 195 guns shooting on the day - it was the largest shoot to date.
The funds raised will be supporting four charities this year - Devizes Opportunity Centre, Ataxia UK, Myasthenia Gravis and Julia's House - the new Children's Hospice for Wiltshire (based in Devizes).
