Established in 1988 by a group of five friends in the local pub, today the club is thriving with 2 league sides, 2 friendly sides and an Old Farts XI together with 6 junior age groups being jointly coached with Potterne CC.
Having marked our silver jubilee in 2013 with the opening of our new pavilion and started 2014 with the improvement of our 3 full-length nets, 2015 saw further developments to the ground including a new machine shed, an extended carpark and further levelling works to the outfield. The start of the 2016 season sees us with over 150 active members and something happens on the ground almost everyday (occasionally this is cricket!
2018-11-0939 teams entered the 2018 BCCC Charity Clay Pigeon Shoot and the 200+ participants and helpers enjoyed ideal weather, a constant supply of doughnuts and bottled water and some excellent, varied sport. The event included axe-throwing, archery, pistol shooting and shooting at the remote controlled plane - the Gnat - as well as conventional clay pigeon shooting!
The day concluded with a glorious three curse meal served in the fabulous venue that is the Wellington Barn at Calstone. Charles Lucas auctioneer sold 38 lots at the auction, which made £25,000. Huge thanks goes to all the Welly Barn staff and Sweet Pea Caterers.
The whole event was sponsored by many individuals and businesses - allowing us to make a total of £56,000 for charity. £28,000 has gone to Julia's House, £8,000 to the Devizes Opportunity Centre, £8,000 to Ataxia (the charity for the neuromuscular condition of children), £4,000 to Dorothy House and £5,000 to the charity that the cricket clud administers for local charities over the two years 'between shoots'. For example, we have just donated £1,000 for the defibrillator to be sited in Coate near Devizes, the home of BCCC.
As a result of running six biannual shoots, the club has been able to donate a total of £195,000 to charity.
